About the Center



Established primarily in Istanbul University in Turkey, Women’s Studies Application and Research Center is located under Rectorate. The Center is an example for the recently spreading Women’s Studies Centers in Turkey.

The aims of the center include;

  • Research related to the problems faced by women in education, health, law, politics, and employment; support of such researches, provide and empower coordination,
  • Research and study for gender mainstreaming,
  • Prepare education programmes on gender equality and awareness,
  • Establish programmes to inform women of their rights and opportunities in all areas,
  • Form education programmes and seminars for girls and women from rural areas who weren’t able to effectively participate in national development,
  • Making studies in order to change the discriminatory articles with regards to gender equality; conducting campaigns,
  • Opening MA and PhD programmes in Women’s Studies,
  • Providing supervision for institutions and companies studying about women,
  • Following the international progresses regarding the problems of women and gender equality and making informative conferences, panels etc.,
  • Publishing bulletin, journal and books.
